Iteris leads in intersection safety with key Machine Learning (ML) innovations. SmartCycle®, introduced in 2012, detects and tracks bicyclists, aiding traffic engineers in safety planning. Following this, PedTrax® was launched in 2016 to monitor pedestrians in crosswalks and count vulnerable road users, guiding safety enhancements. Recently, our Red-Light Running feature identifies and categorizes vehicles running red lights. The counts are binned into various time buckets to show traffic engineers where the most dangerous intersections might be. Additionally, Iteris has developed ML models that can predict intersection crash risks nationwide using data such as geometry, traffic volume, and driving behaviors, without the need for physical sensors. These models use several datasets including intersection geometry attributes, speeding level at intersection, traffic volume level and driving event data (hard braking/hard acceleration) to assess risk of crash at the intersection zone.
