Popular city centre apartment scheme welcomes councillors

19/10/2021

Launched in March this year, the East Street development was fully leased in just over three months, eight months ahead of schedule. The pet friendly development of one and two-bedroom apartments started welcoming its first residents at Easter with the entire complex now fully occupied. Residents at Gatehouse Apartments benefit from a 24-hour gym, co-working space, lounge and private dining area as well as a stunning roof terrace with views across the city and superfast 250mbps wi-fi is available throughout the development. There are over 100 cycle spaces and 47 parking bays with secured gated access, and the onsite Resident Services Team is on hand to help with anything residents need.

Grainger, the Newcastle headquartered business, is the UK's largest listed residential landlord and a market leader in the UK build to rent and private rented sector (PRS) with a portfolio of over 9,000 rental homes throughout the UK.

Helen Gordon, Grainger Chief Executive, joined Councillors in Southampton to explain how Grainger's in-house research team identify locations with the greatest rental demand and the greatest growth prospects. She added:

"Our targeted cities strategy is informed by in-depth research. Of the 62 cities we analysed, we have identified 22 as core targets based on existing demand and growth prospects, Southampton being one of those.

"Gatehouse Apartments development has exceeded our expectation reaffirming our initial investment decisions and the strong credentials of the city as a new location for Grainger.

"Southampton is one of the south coast's more exciting cities and one of Grainger's targeted locations for long-term investment."

Leader of Southampton City Council, Daniel Fitzhenry, praised the scheme:

"It's fantastic to see this development fully occupied so quickly and there is already a great community spirit among residents. Grainger's investment demonstrates the incredibly exciting opportunities for investors and developers in Southampton.

"We also have other development schemes across the city coming forward such as the Leisure World site, Maritime Gateway and Bargate Quarter. It is through projects like these that we will drive our economy and generate inward investment to get Southampton moving, creating more opportunities and prosperity for our city.

"We have an incredibly exciting opportunity ahead of us and this really is the moment for our city to shine and unleash the potential we have, to become the city we know we can be."
