Statement from Speaker Adrienne Adams on Governor Hochul’s Declaration of State Disaster Emergency In Response to Monkeypox Outbreak

"New York City is the epicenter of the nation's aggressive monkeypox outbreak, with positive cases rising every day at an alarming rate. It has become an increasingly urgent crisis that must be addressed with swift and thorough action by every level of government. Eligible New Yorkers, especially those most at risk, must have equitable access to vaccinations, and vaccines must reach all communities throughout our city. I applaud Governor Hochul for recognizing the severity of this outbreak and for taking immediate action that will allow localities to have the necessary resources to combat this virus. With the declaration of this State Disaster Emergency, New York is ensuring that our localities will have the support we need to overcome this outbreak."
