MUFG celebrates 50 years of financial services and facilitating foreign investment in Italy

MUFG is delighted to celebrate 50 years since the establishment of its Milan office. During this time, it has offered offering corporate and commercial banking products to Italian and Japanese clients.

The bank celebrated this special anniversary today with its Italian and Japanese clients in Milan, who were welcomed by MUFG's global and regional leadership.

MUFG's history in Italy goes back half a century, with the opening of a Bank of Tokyo branch in Milan in April 1972. In 1988 a branch of Mitsubishi Bank, Ltd. was also established in Milan, and eight years later, the two banks merged into Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd. Meanwhile in 2005, Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Group joined forces to form Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG).

MUFG Group is now a trusted global financial institution, present in more than 50 countries and regions, with 180,000 professionals worldwide and approximately USD 3 trillion of assets. The Italian office comprises of 57 people, and supports over 250 Japanese companies present in the country that contribute to the growth of the Italian economy.

At the same time the Milan branch acts as an enabler of foreign investments in Italy. Together with the Italian governmental agencies Invitalia and ITA, MUFG assists Japanese companies in investing in the country and Japanese expats in finding their way.

MUFG also provides financing to large Italian corporations in strategic sectors of the economy like telecommunications, infrastructure, energy and industrials, with the capacity to provide support in large transactions. The debt capital markets team supports Italian issuers in raising funds in public markets through bond transactions in Europe and the United States.

As a major active lender in project finance, the Italian branch helps sponsors to implement key natural resources and telecom projects in Italy. And finally, as a global bank, MUFG also supports Italian multinational companies in their growth across the globe.
