Highlanders Storm Past Patriots for Second Straight

LANGHORNE, PA- On a blustery evening in Langhorne, PA the Highlanders took to the floor against the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference matchup. The Highlanders continued their strong play of late, besting the Patriots by a score of 88-74 for their second straight win. The first 10 minutes were played evenly, as both teams sought to implement their offense and find a spark to break the game open. The Highlanders threw the first punch midway through the first half, breaking the game wide open when sharpshooting guard deflecting a pass, gathered, and to the surprise of perhaps everyone but himself threw down a thunderous dunk to give the Highlanders an important jump. Cairn raced to a 9-0 run after Jacobs dunk, stretching the lead all the way to 22-11. The Patriots countered with a 10-2 run of their own to cut the Highlander lead to 3, but not deterred by the Highlanders bounced back, leading the rest of the game and never looking back. Embodying the play of their star Malachi Hall, the Highlanders kept up their offensive efficiency, shooting 43% from the floor en route to a 42-32 lead. The Highlanders continued their strong play into the second half, extending their lead to 20 when Malachi Hall threw down a ferocious two-handed slam to give the Highlanders an 88-68 lead with 2:05 left to play. After that, the Highlanders held onto their lead, executing down the stretch and playing strong man-to-man defense as they finished the 88-74 victory. Malachi Hall was brilliant as ever in the win, tallying 26 points on 12-17 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds and 8 assists to tally yet another double-double and flirt with a triple-double. was equally as impressive, notching a career high 26 points with 9 rebounds, while Antoine Nunnally continued to dominate the glass, grabbing 18 rebounds on the night. The Highlanders win improved their non-conference record to 5-2 on the season. Cairn will be back in action Wednesday night when they take on Immaculata University. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
