At one of the training grounds in the eastern part of the Kaliningrad region, as part of the joint strategic exercise (JSE) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Zapad-2021, motorized rifle units of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet practiced maneuver defence.

The servicemen, using the features of the natural landscape of the area, carried out engineering equipment of defensive lines and spare firing positions.

During the main stage of the combat training event, motorized infantry on the infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3 performed training tasks on conducting maneuver defence with the organization of ambushes and fire counterattacks. The attached tank units took up the defence and engaged in battle with the superior forces of the mock enemy. During the training battle, the personnel retreated to pre-prepared positions, luring the mock enemy to the area where a tank ambush was organized.

Special attention was paid to the organization of stable and continuous communication with the active use of electronic warfare by the enemy.

At the firing stage, concentrated fire from 125-mm guns of T-72B3 tanks hit full-size targets simulating tanks and enemy manpower.

The planned combat training event involves about 1,000 military personnel, over 70 units of military and special equipment, including BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, T-72B3 tanks, Acacia and Gvozdika self-propelled artillery howitzers, Tunguska anti-aircraft artillery systems, Grad and Uragan multiple launch rocket systems, as well as other weapons.
