Water main project in Guilford starts week of June 10

Guilford, Conn., May 17, 2024- Connecticut Water Company will begin a $1.5 million project to install new water main in Guilford on portions of Whitfield Street starting the week of June 10 in order to improve water quantity and quality to area residents and also provide additional fire protection for public safety.

About 3,000 feet of water main along with three new fire hydrants will be installed to replace existing pipe that is more than 100 years old. Streets impacted by the project include Whitfield Street from Water Street to Frances Road as well as Old Whitfield Street from Frances Road to Pages Lane.

"Investing in drinking water infrastructure improves water system reliability and enhances water quality," stated Vice President of Service Delivery, Rose Gavrilovic, P.E. She added, "When customers turn on the tap they expect high-quality water, without interruption. This investment in new water main will serve customers for decades to come."

Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an expected completion date of September 2024. Customers in the construction area have been notified of the project and will receive advance notice of any scheduled water service interruption because of the water main installation project.

The project is funded through the Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) on customer bills. Connecticut Water's goal is to replace about one percent of its more than 1,850 miles of water main every year through the WICA program. The company plans to invest over $60 million in water treatment, water storage and pipelines in 2024.
