Minister Kubayi and Premier Zikalala to handover houses to beneficiaries with disabilities

The Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi together with the Premier of KwaZulu Natal, Mr Sihle Zikalala and MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr Jomo Sibiya, will tomorrow, 14th of October 2021 handover houses to beneficiaries with disabilities. The houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries at Brooks Farm Ward 52, eThekwini Municipality.

The handover of the houses is part of the government's efforts to restore the dignity of the indigent people through the delivery of sustainable human settlements. The Department of Human Settlements is committed to responding to the housing needs of the vulnerable groups; i.e., child-headed households, elderly and people with disabilities. Tomorrow's handover will see the beneficiaries, some of whom totally blind, receiving fully subsidized houses.

Minister Kubayi has been visiting different provinces to assess the delivery of houses. To date she has been to seven provinces with the recent one being Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Prior the handover of houses, Minister Kubayi will receive a briefing from the eThekwini Metro on the status of their performance in relation to the delivery of human settlements. The Metro will also brief Minister on the Cornubia Catalytic Projects and as well as plans and progress made to eradicate transit camps.

The Minister will be joined by the Executive Mayor of eThekwini Metro, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, and Chairperson of eThekwini Sustainable Human Settlements Portfolio Committee, Cllr Thanduxolo Sabela.
