Last week, the recycling containers at the Public Works Garage and the West Cumberland Fire Station were removed. Unfortunately, some residents were using them to throw away their household waste to avoid purchasing the town trash bags. The contamination was so high that ecomaine was unable to accept the contents as recycling and was charging the town to dispose of it as trash. We sincerely apologize to those who were using these receptacles correctly and are now impacted by this change. If you were using them to dispose of large boxes, Waste Management will still collect them in curbside pickup if you break them all the way down. The Town is planning to temporarily return these bins in December to help with the extra recycling during the holiday season.
