WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, today convened a full committee hearing to consider the nominations of Anton Hajjar, Amber McReynolds and Ronald Stroman to serve on the United States Postal Service Board of Governors. Peters and the nominees discussed how they can work together to improve the Postal Service, increase the agency's transparency and accountability to the public, and ensure veterans, businesses owners, rural residents, seniors, and underserved communities can count on reliable mail delivery for years to come. Peters is committed to ensuring the Postal Service has strong and experienced leadership who will support postal workers, focus on reliable mail delivery, and maintain the Postal Service's public service mission.

'It is essential that nominees to the Board of Governors are qualified leaders who will focus on service, and work with Congress to ensure our postal workforce has the right support to deliver for the American people each and every day,' said Peters during his opening statement.

Peters continued: 'All of you have diverse and extensive leadership, public service, and legal experience that have prepared you to take on this new role, bring fresh perspectives, and address the challenges the Postal Service faces.'

Peters has fought to protect the Postal Service and its 245-year tradition of mail delivery. Peters previously released a report that confirmed operational changes at the Postal Service by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and postal executives last summer resulted in compromised service for communities in Michigan and across the country. Peters also secured a $10 billion direct payment to the Postal Service to help ensure it can recover from pandemic-related losses. Earlier this year, he led 33 of his colleagues in pressing Postal Service leadershipon what actions they are taking to restore on-time mail delivery.
