TRAFFIC FATALITY – HARBOR AVENUE AND ANAHEIM STREET

Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision which occurred on April 30, 2024, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On April 30, 2024, at approximately 8:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Harbor Avenue and Anaheim Street regardingan injury traffic collision involving a semi-truck tractor trailer and a vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical aid. The driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital, however, the driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries and the passenger is listed in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 2012 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on the service road of Anaheim Street when the driver made an illegal left turn onto Harbor Avenue. A semi-truck traveling westbound on Anaheim Street struck the vehicle as it turned.

The driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The identity of the driveris being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.

Impaired driving is being investigated on behalf of the driver of the Toyota Camry; however, speed and distracted driving do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
