'E manako ana mātou, he āhuatanga whakamana tēnei i ngā kaipakihi Māori me ngā kaipakihi tauiwi anō hoki'.

Ko tā Digital Boost, he tuku i ngā whakangungu utukore, ngā awheawhe pāhekoheko, ngā wā tuku pātai mataora me te tautoko ā-raparongoā. He mea āwhina ngā pakihi iti me ā rātou kaimahi e te kaupapa ako nei kia whai mārama rātou ko tēhea o ngā hangarau matihiko ka āwhina i a rātou.

Hīkina Whakatutuki, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) announced the change today as part of the programme's commitment to make the Digital Boost training content accessible and relevant to Māori business owners while honouring te reo for all New Zealanders.

Digitalboost.co.nz now includes over 90 educational videos in te reo, with the option for English subtitles. More videos will be created over the next year.

Tui Rutherford, Head of Small Business Services at MBIE, says that supporting and showcasing Māori-owned kaipakihi is a priority for the Government and the Digital Boost programme.

'The integration is also a great way for business owners to explore bringing more te reo into their workplace and improving skills. Throughout the site you'll find that the majority of information, menus and instructions have been translated'.

In partnership with the private sector, MBIE launched the Digital Boost programme at the end of 2020 to encourage small businesses to enhance their digital capabilities. Since then more than 36,000 business owners, business starters and employees have signed up and are engaging with the free training content across 6 categories - digital marketing, digital tools, small business accounting, business insights and future technologies.

Mr Rutherford says that giving businesses the option to learn relevant digital skills in te reo supports the resurgence of the language and the importance of protecting this precious taonga.

'We hope this is an empowering new feature for both Māori and non-Māori business owners'.

The integration of te reo into the Digital Boost platform comes after the introduction of the Māori Business Identifier in May. The Māori Business Identifier, a piece of the primary business data held on the New Zealand Business Number NZBN) register, allows businesses to identify themselves as a Māori business.

Approximately 7% of those surveyed after registering with Digital Boost identified themselves as part of a Māori business.
Translation of the content and video creation on the Digital Boost platform was undertaken by the Adrenalin Group, a Māori TV and content producer based in Auckland over the past several months. A number of Māori-owned kaipakihi and te reo Māori speakers were also involved in co-design of the overall te reo experience.

Mr Rutherford says, 'It was an interesting journey as the team were often needing to come up with translations for new words in the digital business world.

'It is an exciting time for our language-to see it evolving while also being made more accessible to the small business community who make up such a large and important part of Aotearoa'.

Digital Boost offers free training, interactive workshops, live Q&A sessions and helpdesk support. The learning platform supports small business owners and their employees to better understand which digital technologies their business could benefit from. It also includes over 65 real world stories about Kiwi businesses and access to expert advice.
