Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas- Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after a three- federal judge panel ruled that Texas Republicans intentionally discriminated against African American and Latino voters when they drew the 2011 Texas House maps:
'As of today, federal courts have ruled on six separate occasions since 2011 that Texas Republican leaders have intentionally discriminated against African-American and Latino voters. Three rulings in 2017 alone have affirmed that Republican leaders worked to dilute the voting strength of minorities from the local to federal level. Texans should not have to turn to the federal courts to assert their basic rights, but under Republican leadership, it has shamefully been their last line of defense. It's time for Texas Republicans to finally quit wasting taxpayer money in defending their discriminatory crusade against the growing voting power of minorities and instead work to ensure that Texans of all backgrounds are represented fairly at the ballot box and can exercise their right to vote.'
