[Women's Soccer] Mustangs fall to intra-city rival

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Coe got scores by four different players to defeat the Mount Mercy women's soccer team, 4-2, in the latest matchup between intra-city rivals on Wednesday night at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs are 0-2-1 against the Kohawks since a 2-0 victory over Coe in 2016. Mount Mercy wraps up the non-conference portion of their schedule this weekend at Waldorf. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. in Forest City. The Mustangs open Heart of America Athletic Conference action on Tuesday against Clarke at 5:00 p.m. at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Coe tallied 14 shots overall, including eight on goal, while Mount Mercy totaled 11 shots with five on frame. Amanda Hiebert (17') and Sydney Schroder (28') drilled first-half goals for the Kohawks. Melany Roggow (SR/Longview, Wash.) (41') brought the Mustangs within a score by halftime, however.

The Kohawks moved in front, 4-1, thanks to goals by Katelyn Evans (50') and Morgan Petsche (79') before Carly Walker (SR/Taylor Ridge, Ill.) notched her second goal of the season to finish off the scoring. Mustang goalkeeper Sarah Johnson (JR/Middle Amana, Iowa) stopped four shots, while her counterpart, Alex Montalbano, made three saves for the Kohawks.
