The UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) awarded the prizes for the best Bachelor's Degree Final Project (TFG) on transformation for global justice - which in the past two years have been named after the former professor of Economics, Arcadi Oliveres - on Sunday 17 April, at a ceremony at the Faculty of Economics. In this seventh edition, 34 projects from 34 different bachelor's degrees were awarded on topics such as climate change, racism, digital divide or social justice, and many others. Of these, four received a special mention, one for each area of knowledge.

Jordi Prat: "This award exemplifies the values of Professor Arcadi Oliveres, a great advocate for global justice."

The FAS has awarded 34 Bachelor's Degree Final Projects - which had to have a minimum mark of 8.5 - made using the perspective of transformation for global justice by students of the UAB. Since 2022, the awards have been renamed the Arcadi Oliveres Award and, this year, they reach their 7th edition. There were 78 entries for the awards.

The event, which aimed to highlight the contribution of the awarded TFGs to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global justice from the different faculties of the UAB, was attended by all the winners, their families, the lecturers supervising the project and organisers. They were awarded a diploma and a gift containing 17 seeds.

At the presidential table, speeches were given by Jordi Prat, director of the FAS; Sara Belbeida, commissioner for Citizen Relations and Cultural and Religious Diversity of the Barcelona City Council; and Esther Zapater, secretary general of the UAB.

"This award exemplifies the values of Arcadi Oliveres, a great advocate of global justice" said Jordi Prat, while thanking the Barcelona City Council for its participation in the awards: "These awards are also a sign of an alliance between institutions to promote the global change that society needs".

Sara Belbeida, for her part, stressed that "the awards are a grain of sand to make a fairer society and a more united world". She also emphasised the figure of Professor Oliveres: "he is a reference for those of us who understand another way of doing international relations". These days," said the representative of the Barcelona City Council, "I don't know if he would be very happy seeing what is happening around us and given that he was a defender of the culture of peace, dialogue and non-violence".

Esther Zapater also mentioned Professor Oliveres in the event and mentioned the families of the students "who have been able to instill the effort and critical spirit" of these students to do the work as well as the teachers and tutors who have taken charge.
