AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 30, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Atlas Technical Consultants, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATCX) ("Atlas" or the "Company"), a leading Infrastructure and Environmental solutions provider, announced today that it has been awarded additional scope as part of the team conducting the geotechnical investigation for the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Atlas, as part of the Rizzo International team, was awarded a $7 million contract to provide field and lab services that will generate the necessary data to feed into the final geotechnical report.

"Much of the current work on the nation's first small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear plant consists of studies to gather data and information to include in the application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission," said Dan King, Atlas Director of CMT Program Services. "Atlas is pleased to be part of this groundbreaking effort to provide affordable and clean energy - one of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals." Atlas professionals are monitoring the drilling operations of seven deep exploration drill rigs and taking samples of materials during drilling operations. Atlas' team of professional engineers and geologists then logs all the samples taken and transports them to a long-term storage facility provided by the INL. This geotechnical investigation will be a supporting document to the Combined Construction and Operation License Application (COLA) for the planned SMR project benefitting the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS).

"Atlas has more than 20 years of experience working at INL, and we are proud to be part of this 'first in the world' project that will provide firm, dispatchable, carbon-free energy to participants and help usher in a new generation of nuclear energy," added Atlas CEO, L. Joe Boyer.

Nuclear reactors generate virtually emission-free power, which means they can play a crucial role in global efforts to lower emissions and reach the Paris climate goals. SMR plants have a small environmental footprint and generate carbon-free power which supports the net zero goals of the United States government. They require only a small amount of fuel compared to gas or coal and take up a fraction of the space required for wind and solar farms.

Atlas is committed to prioritizing safety and a healthy, hazard-free work environment for all who operate in, visit, or enter their facilities and job sites.
