Our main concern as a responsible government, though with a short-term mandate, is the rail transport, said Prime Minister Gerdjikov at the opening of the Regional Conference 'Investment Opportunities for the Transport Sector.' 'We need immediate and bold decisions, decisive policies for the salvation and modernization of this wonderful transport mode for people and cargo, from serious investors. We also need the support of our European partners,' added the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister welcomed the European Commissioner Violeta Bulc, under whose auspices the conference is being organized. He expressed his expectations that at today's forum concrete initiatives for encouraging financing of infrastructure in Europe will be discussed.
Gerdjikov noted that during the previous programming period a number of infrastructure projects important for Bulgaria were implemented with European participation, whose benefit is visible to the society. He gave the example of the motorway network in Southern Bulgaria, which alleviated the transport flows from Sofia to Burgas and our Southern border with Turkey and Greece. 'I expect that during the current programming period the railways along the same directions will be completed,' said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Gerdjikov defined as undoubted advantage the strategic location of our country in geographic and geopolitical respect. 'This location is a blessing, but also a test in the context of the contemporary global challenges. The question is how to choose, together with our European partners, the best algorithm for the transport policy in accord with the European,' highlighted Gerdjikov.
