  • Seabourn Elementary School - $250

Green Teams, a KMB program on school campuses, are groups of students who are engaged in environmental activities including recycling, litter prevention, beautification and sustainable practices such as conservation and gardening.

Student Guadalupe Hernandez leads Horn High School's Green Team. She's a senior and Horn's valedictorian.

"When you're in an environment that's clean, it makes you feel better, and it helps you learn," she said. "The Green Team grant it going to help us increase participation at our school."

KMB Executive Director Jonathan Chitty said that Green Teams teach important life skills that lead to healthier individuals, community and environment.

"We can't wait to see beautiful things happening at each school as a result of these grants," he said. "These students play a vital role in educating the school on what, how and why to recycle and protect our environment. Through Green Teams, we make lasting connections between students and their contributions to society, even if it's as simple as throwing their trash in the proper bin."
