China's pork price falls last week

BEIJING - China's weekly pork price dropped last week, according to official data.

From Sept 13 to 16, the average pork price tracked by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was 30.61 yuan (about $4.38) per kg, down 0.3 percent week-on-week. The price was 77.9 percent higher than a year ago.

The ministry has attributed the price decline to a decrease in hog demand after the Mid-Autumn Festival.

China will release more pork from government reserves to the market this week to maintain supply and price stability, the country's top economic planner said on Sept 22.
