Carper Applauds Selection of Potential Locations for National Transmission Corridors

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today applauded the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) preliminary list of 10 potential National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETC) to accelerate the development of transmission projects. DOE is now seeking public input on the preliminary list. The NIETC program, which provides federal financing and permitting tools to spur transmission development, was strengthened in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

"Expanding our transmission system is key to unleashing a vast amount of clean energy that is currently sitting on the sidelines," said Chairman Carper. "Thankfully, the Department of Energy is taking action today to accelerate the building of new transmission infrastructure while ensuring robust community engagement. By proposing these National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors, DOE is delivering on Congress' bipartisan instruction to modernize our nation's grid for our clean energy future."
