[Women's Basketball] Mustangs surrender early lead, fall to Pride

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- After taking a one-point lead at the end of the opening period, Mount Mercy went cold offensively as 21st-ranked Clarke rebounded for a 66-45 victory over the Mustangs in Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball Monday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Mount Mercy (4-15, 1-13 Heart) has two of their next three games at home but travels to Des Moines on Thursday to face Grand View (15-6, 11-4 Heart) at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs host Missouri Valley on Feb. 1 and Graceland on Feb. 5 Clarke has won eight of their last nine games to improve to 17-4 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

Mount Mercy had a 17-point first quarter but only totaled 14 over the next two periods as Clarke took control. Brianna Thomas (SR/Mesquite, Texas) was the lone Mustang in double figures with 13 points. Chailey Cabalis (SO/Keaau, Hawaii) added nine points and a pair of steals, Sarah Moffett (JR/Mount Pleasant, Iowa) seven points and seven rebounds. Sandra Mia (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tallied three steals.

Morgan Pitz and Emma Gaber had 14 points apiece for the Pride. Tina Ubl posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Makenna Haase chipped in seven points, 10 boards, and five assists.
