Eight Mile Road Closed at I-275 from May 2-11

As a part of continuing infrastructure work being performed by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) to provide redundancy in the regional system, Eight Mile Road will be closed to through traffic under the I-275 overpass (1/4 mile east of Haggerty Road) beginning on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. The closure is expected to last through Monday, May 13 at 5 a.m.

I-275 ramps that are part of the closure Include:
- Southbound I-275 ramp left turn lane to Eastbound Eight Mile Road (closure already in place)
- Eastbound Eight Mile Road ramp to Northbound I-275
- Westbound Eight Mile Road ramp to Southbound I-275

Detour routes for traffic during the closure are as follows:

Eastbound Eight Mile Road
- Through traffic will be directed South on Haggerty Road to Seven Mile Road, then east on Seven Mile Road to Newburgh Road, then north on Newburgh Road back to Eight Mile Road.
- I-275 North Traffic will be directed south on Haggerty Road to Seven Mile Road, then east on Seven Mile Road to the NB-I-275 ramp.

Westbound 8 Mile Road
- Through Traffic will be directed south on Newburgh Road to Seven Mile Road, then west on Seven Mile Road to Haggerty Road, then north on Haggerty Road to Eight Mile Road.
- I-275 South Traffic will be directed south on Newburgh Road to Seven Mile Road, then west on Seven Mile Road to the I-275 South ramp.

Expect heavy traffic on Newburgh, Haggerty and Victor Parkway. You may wish to avoid the area and seek alternate routes through the closure.

During the closure GLWA will be installing a 54-inch transmission main across Eight Mile Road and restore the section of roadway within this work area. This is the last section of the 7.5 miles of transmission main to be installed between 14 Mile and Eight Mile as a part of this project.
