City of Greater Sudbury and Partners Set to Host Battery Electric Vehicle Conference

As automotive manufacturers move to fully electric vehicles by 2040, and battery electric applications in transit and industry make significant strides, the City of Greater Sudbury and its partners extend an invitation to BEV In-Depth: Mines to Mobility, Greater Sudbury's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) conference.

The conference will be held May 25 and 26, 2022, at Science North, one of Canada's top science centres, located on the shores of Sudbury's beautiful Lake Ramsey.

"As the shift to electric vehicles grows the demand for nickel and other critical minerals from the Sudbury Basin, our community is poised for growth and further prosperity. The time is now to connect with our southern neighbours, especially those in the automotive and transportation industries," said the Mayor of Greater Sudbury. "I am excited about the potential of this inaugural conference and I look forward to welcoming local delegates and those from across Ontario."

Designed as a meeting of northern and southern Ontario, the event will connect industry experts, suppliers and influential voices from across the province to explore the current state of the electric vehicle market and look at how to advance a fully integrated battery electric supply chain in Ontario and throughout Canada. It will help forge relationships between leaders in the mining, mining supply and services, automotive, battery technology, transportation, green energy and investment communities, as well as government and non-government agencies.

"This conference will bring leaders from several industries together for critical conversation, collaboration and action focused on a common purpose - bringing supply chain opportunities in the EV battery space to Greater Sudbury," said Lisa Demmer, Chair of the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC). "The GSDC is proud to help support this event, which will foster relationships among the best and brightest in these industries and ultimately contribute to economic growth in our community."

The conference will feature a wide range of speakers, including Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Other speakers will include representatives from:

  • Global Automakers of Canada
  • Wyloo Noront
  • Electric Mobility Canada
  • Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association

BEV In-Depth: Mines to Mobility is presented by the City of Greater Sudbury, Greater Sudbury Development Corporation, Frontier Lithium, Cambrian College, EV Society, Electric Autonomy Canada, Accelerate - ZEV and Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network.
