Exhibition For Proposed New Recreation Facilities At Mortimer Forest - 13/02/2018

Proposals to bring exciting, new opportunities for day visitors and those who wish to stay overnight in a part of Mortimer Forest are being introduced by the Forestry Commission at a series of public exhibitions.

The plans, which are supported and funded by Forest Holidays, one of the Forestry Commission's long-standing partners, include 68 secluded Forest Holidays eco-cabins offering tranquil overnight stays. All visitors could enjoy new and improved paths, trails and car parking; new public toilets; new natural play equipment and a new viewpoint overlooking the Welsh Hills and The Marches.

David Williamson, Partnerships Lead for the Forestry Commission said:

'We know that Mortimer Forest is popular with walkers, dog walkers, cyclists and horse riders amongst others and our proposals would enhance the recreational facilities for everyone. Working with one of our many partners, we want to create high-quality, long-lasting facilities offering benefits for visitors, wildlife and the local economy.

'Forest Holidays was created by the Forestry Commission more than forty years ago and today successfully operates in nine UK forests including four in National Parks. The eco-cabins would be in a small area of Mortimer Forest bringing wide-reaching benefits and opportunities for the forest and the community.'

The Forestry Commission is inviting people to view the proposals in more detail at a series of public exhibitions later this month. This will be a chance to talk with the local Forest District team and with Forest Holidays team members before a planning application is submitted.

The exhibition will introduce new designs for a landscaped viewpoint at High Vinnalls, proposals for family-friendly natural play equipment, new and enhanced trails, cabins and areas of ecological and habitat enhancement.

Local businesses can also find out about how Forest Holidays partners with, and champions, local businesses and suppliers, bringing year-round trade, jobs and investment into communities. To support this, further business focused forums will be held locally in the near future.
