National Preparedness Month Ends with Some Closing Preparedness Tips

Published on September 30, 2022

September is National Preparedness Month and the Denver Office of Emergency Management has worked throughout the month to share helpful preparedness content to help Denverites increase their emergency preparedness. As the month comes to a close, we want to offer a few closing preparedness tips:

  • Create and maintain a Family Communication Plan. Ensure your family keeps the plan handy and visible like on your fridge or in another common area. Share a digital version of the plan with each family member via email.

  • Make a Plan for your family to discuss who you will contact and where you will meet should you experience an emergency or disaster. It's also important to host regular household meetings to review and practice your plan.
  • Build a Kit. Building a kit, whether it be for your home, car, or place of work, should include items such as food, water, and other emergency supplies that should sustain you for at least 72 hours. The supplies should include a collection of basic items in your household that you may need in the event of an emergency.

In addition, we'd like to encourage residents to get involved with our free and accessible DenverREADY program to attend upcoming classes and events. Our event calendar and page is updated often so be sure to check back often to take advantage of upcoming opportunities.

Thanks for sticking with us through September! Whether you attended a Preparedness Fair, attended a DenverREADY class, or signed up to volunteer, know we are so happy and excited to help you on your journey to becoming #DenverREADY!
