City to Host Overture Public Art Unveiling Ceremony
May 11

The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to attend a public art unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, May 11 at noon to celebrate the installation of the Overture sculpture in Bartram Park.

Overture, designed by sculptor Jeremy Guy, is smooth surfaced, black granite flecked almost imperceptibly with copper which has been engineered into an elegant sculpture resembling a treble clef. An overture is an orchestral piece at the beginning of an opera, suite, play, oratorio, or other extended musical composition.

The Overture sculpture was donated to the city by resident Holly Benson.

"This is a beautiful piece which is full of movement and which adds to Pensacola's impressive collection of outdoor sculptures," Benson said. "My parents have been long-standing supporters of Pensacola Opera and the arts, and I'm giving this sculpture to the city in their honor."

"This is another great addition to our growing collection of public art in Bartram Park," Mayor Grover Robinson said. We believe public art is an important part of what makes Pensacola such a great place to live, work and play. We appreciate this gift and believe it will be a valuable addition to our collection of public art displayed throughout the city."

Citizens are encouraged to explore and celebrate Pensacola's collection of public art using the city's story map website artventurepensacola.com. ArtVenture Pensacola is a guide to learn more about the sculptures, murals, and other outdoor assets Pensacola has to offer. ArtVenture includes information about the artist, donor, and significance of each piece.

Bartram Park is located at 211 Bayfront Parkway in Pensacola.
