The University of Salamanca and Banco Santander hold the 4th edition of Financial Education Seminars for Schools

Madrid, 12 November 2021.
The University of Salamanca and Banco Santander are holding the 4th edition of Financial Education Seminars under the Finance for Mortals programme, promoted by the bank together with the UCEIF Foundation and the Santander Financial Institute (SANFI); these seminars are also supported by the city council.

Over 300 Salamanca secondary school students from various schools in Salamanca will converge on the University's Faculty of Economics and Business today to gain an understanding of basic financial concepts, learn how to manage their finances and discover the key aspects of the most common financial products.

They will learn about financial literacy from volunteer trainers from Banco Santander, who will include the Bank's Castile and Leon regional director, Javier Martín Clavo, and the area manager, Emma Quintela.

The regional director, Javier Martín Clavo, stated that this seminar "is yet another example of Santander's commitment to financial education and inclusion through an initiative, Finance for Mortals, that in 2020 alone provided financial education to over 65,000 people from the most financially vulnerable groups to help them take better decisions on managing their money, thus contributing to the security and protection of their finances". He also recalled that the bank has been collaborating with the Castile and Leon regional government's Education Department since 2017 in its strong commitment to improve the economic and financial education of its citizens.

In turn, the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Jesús Galende del Canto, highlighted the importance of the economy and finance in the current situation, as well as the "need for financial education from an early age to promote the holistic development of the individual, on the one hand, and, on the other, to lay the foundations for a social and economic development that is sustainable over time and compatible with all the challenges we face today". Moreover, if they decide to study for any of the qualifications offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business, they will have the opportunity to discover a wide range of activities that will improve their financial training.
