After Bombshell NBC News Investigation, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa Reiterates Call to Redirect “Alternatives to Abortion” Funding

AUSTIN, Texas -Today, following a bombshell NBC News investigationgoing inside multiple Texas "crisis pregnancy centers" and finding that they are, as feared, providing Texan women with dangerous misinformation about their reproductive health, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

"What we saw in this NBC News investigation was sickening, but sadly, not surprising. We've known for years that these so-called 'crisis pregnancy centers' - that Texas Republicans hang their hats on in order to ignore the actual needs of Texan women - are just fraudulent establishments peddling misinformation to women in the most dire of circumstances.

"Governor Abbott and his fellow Texas Republicans will jump through any hoop imaginable to deny women the right to their bodily autonomy, including directing tens of millions of taxpayer dollars a year in blank checks - $100 million over just two years - to these con shops through their 'Alternatives to Abortion' program.

"When we win in November, that stops. We will redirect those funds to support and expand legitimate reproductive health care programs. Texans - especially those going through what is often the most difficult moment of their lives - deserve quality health care, not far-right propaganda."

Last week, after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Texas Democrats released a list of the specific wayswe will return the bodily rights of Texan women to them when we win in November.
