Tiffin University to Host Annual Forensic Science Academy Summer Camp

Tiffin University will host its annual Forensic Science Academy Camp, June 10-14 on campus.

The camp is open to high school students entering their junior or senior year.

Campers will learn principles and tactics to assist in criminal investigations through chemistry and biology. They will also analyze real, recent crime scenes with coroners from across the country. Participants will work in small groups with field-experienced TU professors and experts currently working in the areas of crime scene analysis, fire forensics, blood spatter analysis, forensic biology and forensic chemistry. Additionally, campers will learn how to handle the mental and emotional challenges of these professions from current and past death investigators and coroners.

Some fan-favorite lessons and activities include in-person autopsies, fire forensic analysis, full-scale explosions and analysis with Bomb Squad personnel, staged crime scene investigations, forensic anthropology, ballistics, blood spatter analysis and the role of entomology in forensics.

"We offer this camp for two very important groups" said Dr. John Schupp, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. "For the campers themselves, they find out, after five days that they may have what it takes to handle this very difficult profession, and the parents are relieved that their children determined this fact at a fraction of the cost of just one semester at college."

The cost of the camp is $975 per student, including room and board. Campers will stay in a single, air-conditioned dorm room. Each camper can earn up to one college credit hour from attending this camp. Space is limited to 30 campers, so interested students are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
