Congressman Krishnamoorthi: Including At Least $80 Billion For Workforce Development Funding In Budget Reconciliation Will Be Even More Important If Community College Funding Cut

WASHINGTON - In response to reports that President Biden's plan to fund two years of free community college had been cut from the reconciliation package, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement:

"The growing likelihood of President Biden's free community college program being cut from the budget reconciliation package only makes it more imperative that we include at least $80 billion in workforce development funding to prepare American workers for the jobs of the future. An analysis by Moody's Analytics projects that this package will create millions of jobs, bringing the economy to near full employment while also easing inflationary pressures, but we'll only be able to capitalize on those opportunities if we ensure that American workers are able to develop the skills required for those new jobs."

In July, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined with Congressman Steven Horsford to lead 101 Members of the House of Representatives in sending a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumerrequesting that major funding for workforce development programs be included in the budget reconciliation package.
