ELSAH, Ill. - Sophomore goal in the 100th
minute bolstered the MacMurray College women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win at Principia College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, MacMurray improves to 4-5 overall and begins conference play with a 1-0 mark.
It didn't take long for senior to record her first goal of the season. Kolo put the Highlanders on the board in the third minute off a feed from VanDyke.
The hosts responded four minutes later, when Principia found the equalizer off an unassisted goal.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation, despite MacMurray controlling the offensive tempo. The Highlanders outshot the Panthers, 35-5, with 17 of those shots on goal.
In the final seconds of the first overtime period, found her former club ball teammate, VanDyke, who beat the Principia goalkeeper and sent the Highlanders home victorious.
With the win, it is the first time since 2016 that the Highlanders have begun conference play with a victory.
MacMurray continues SLIAC play on Wednesday for a match at Blackburn College. The Highlanders will play the back half of a doubleheader with the men's team, with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
