Bulldogs Roll Trinity, Win SCAC Tournament Title

For the ninth time in ten seasons in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), No. 12 Texas Lutheran was crowned champion of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after defeating Trinity, 6-1 on Sunday at Ed Kruse Stadium in Seguin.

The win tallied Texas Lutheran's 19th overall conference title and secured the Bulldogs' ninth SCAC title sweep. The Bulldogs won the SCAC Tournament in 2015 with the same path of an opening win over Southwestern and two wins over Trinity.

The Bulldogs struck first behind a two-RBI single from Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) and another two RBI single from Madison Johnson (Round Rock/Round Rock) to take an immediate four run lead in the first. Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. With the stolen base, Clark tied the SCAC Tournament record for steals in a single tournament with six.

Jack would hit a two-run homer in the bottom of fifth, her sixth of the season, to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 advantage.

An RBI double from Trinity in the sixth would lead to the Tigers lone run of the game and just their sixth run in five games against the Bulldogs this season.

Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) relieved Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) in the seventh and threw a flawless inning to shut the door and secure the Bulldog title. Strother improved to 19-0 on the season, earning the win after allowing six hits and just one run in the effort.

Four Bulldogs recorded a hit in the game, paced by Kylee Jack's 2-for-3, one home run showing with four RBIs and a run scored. Madison Johnson finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Six Bulldogs earned All-Tournament Accolades (Clark, Jack, Johnson, Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City), Ouellette, Strother).

The Bulldogs await their postseason plans to be announced during next Monday's NCAA Division-III Softball Selection Show that will be streamed on ncaa.com. Regional action is slated for May 17-19, Super Regionals the following weekend and then the Women's College World Series in Marshall from May 30-June 5.
