Social Development partners with The Church of Christ to fight hunger amidst COVID-19
As the global coronavirus pandemic takes its toll on the most vulnerable across South Africa, the Department of Social Development has entered into partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to provide the much-needed food relief to destitute families.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in South Africa has committed to support the Department's efforts to enable vulnerable individuals and households affected by the pandemic to access food using the existing provincial food distribution networks structures to deliver food to communities affected by COVID-19.
The church has donated US$1, 4 million for the procurement of 20 000 food relief packages including 2 000 baby packs for eligible individuals and households. The food packages will contain essential supplies to the value of R1 500.
