HONOLULU, May 16, 2022 - Hawaiian Electric crews will be doing overnight emergency work on Keeaumoku Street from 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, until 5 a.m. on Friday, May 20. The project will involve the removal of overhead and underground utility lines and equipment that are no longer in service. The preventive measure is to avoid accidental damage by other contractors doing excavation and demolition work along the street in preparation for new development. Overhead lines also could be accidentally snagged and pose a safety hazard if they fall.

The work will close the two far-right lanes in both directions of Keeaumoku between Young and Makaloa streets. Safety signs will alert motorists of the upcoming lane closures while arrow boards and traffic cones will guide motorists through the lane modifications. Flagmen and special duty police also will provide onsite traffic control and direct motorists into turning lanes and driveways of nearby businesses. There will be no planned outage associated with the utility work.

Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with caution when approaching and passing the work zones or seek alternate routes when possible during the work hours.
