Michael Shu, MD, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery Fellow, captured first place at the recent American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) 50th Global Congress in Austin, Texas.

The international event brings AAGL members together to share the latest in education, science, and technology related to Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). The 2021 SimNow Games are a robotic sim-olympics hosted by Intuitive Surgical, developers of DaVinci robotic surgical systems, during the event. The games are a friendly contest amongst MIGS residents, fellows, and attending physicians who attend the annual conference from around the world. A series of structured tasks are given to the surgeons as they compete on robotic simulators where they are graded on time, economy of motion, unintended errors, overall control and utilization of surgical instruments.

In addition to Dr. Shu's win, the University at Buffalo residency program was well represented among the winners and dominated the competition with three OBGYN residents placing in the top five ahead of many other residents, fellows and attending surgeons who participated.
