China's Organic Community Gets New Organic Online Addresses

SHANGHAI, CHINA - Organic and .Bio Domain Names are Now Licensed for Use in China. Afilias, the registry operator behind the internet addresses ending in .ORGANIC and .BIO, announced today at BIOFACH Chinathat both addresses have been approved by the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for sale in China.

This announcement clears the way for organic Chinese businesses and other members of the organic community to have a digital identity that immediately identifies them as 'organic.'

The .BIO and .ORGANIC domain spaces, available in the west since 2014, were established to give the organic movement and its global stakeholders an easily identifiable, unique and protected space on the Internet.

'By adopting a .ORGANIC or .BIO domain for websites, email or digital marketing, organic farmers, retailers and manufacturers in China can now instantly identify themselves as 'organic' and set themselves apart in a crowded online environment.' said Kun Qian, Afilias' China Country Head. 'More than 20,000 organic entities are using their .organic (in the US) and .bio (in Europe) names, making these addresses the best way to communicate 'organic' in a globally recognized manner' she added.

Registrants in .BIO and .ORGANIC must agree to abide by the Principles of Organic Agriculture published by IFOAM - Organics International. Afilias has partnered with IFOAM - Organics International, and agreement to their Principles distinguishes these addresses from any others on the internet.

'Organic-conscious shoppers in China want confidence that they are dealing with goods and services that are authentically organic,' said Denise Godinho, Head of Communications of IFOAM - Organics International. 'We are pleased that .ORGANIC and .BIO have been approved for Chinese members of this growing worldwide movement, so their customers can find them online more easily and with more confidence.'

BIOFACH China attendees and others looking to register their own .ORGANIC or .BIO domain name should visit our partner at www.west.cn to get started today! You can find out more about .ORGANIC and .BIO by visiting www.get.organic and www.domains.bio.
