30.11.2018 (12:30)

Today, the crew of the major ASW ship Severomorsk of the Northern Fleet has begun the active phase of the Arabian Monsoon 2018 international Russian-Pakistani anti-pirate exercise.

In the course of the exercise, which is held in the northern part of the Arabian Sea, the crews of the Northern Fleet and the Pakistani Navy will practise joint anti-pirate actions.

The major ASW ship Severomorsk and the medium sea tanker Kama represent the Russian side. The frigate Saif, Quvat missile ship, patrol vessel Karar and Sea King helicopter represent the Pakistani Navy.

Military personnel of the assault marines group of the Northern Fleet in cooperation with the Pakistani Navy Special Operations Forces will practise a liberation of a vessel captured by pirates, as one of the main practical episodes during the international exercise. The frigate Saif and the major ASW ship Severomorsk will alternately simulate a vessel captured by pirates.

The major ASW ship Severomorsk of the Northern Fleet has been operating in the Indian Ocean since late September.

Having left the Karachi port this morning, the Russian seamen completed the programme of an unofficial visit to Pakistan.

The long-distance cruise of the major ASW ship Severomorsk started when she left the main basing point -- Severomorsk -- on July 5, 2018. To date, the ship has passed more than 26,000 nautical miles, completed a number of military-diplomatic missions, and visited ports of Algiers, Victoria, Pemba, Antsiranana and Djibouti, and also carried out anti-pirate tasks in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
