FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Fort Pierce Recognizes National Public Works Week

National Public Works Week will take place from Sunday, May 15, through Saturday, May 21, 2022. The City of Fort Pierce Public Works Department looks forward to this event every year as it gives employees the opportunity to educate the public about the vital role the Public Works Department plays in the community. National Public Works Week is aimed at highlighting and celebrating the devoted individuals that work within our community to plan, build, operate, and maintain our city's vital infrastructure.

Instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association in 1960, National Public Works Week calls attention to the importance of Public Works Departments throughout the country. It is a week dedicated to the men and women who go above and beyond to serve their community with unwavering dedication and commitment to making a difference. Oftentimes the work of these dedicated employees goes unnoticed. However, they are the unsung heroes of our community working hard to build and maintain our beautiful City.

In honor of National Public Works Week, the Public Works Department will be receiving a Proclamation from the City Commission on Monday, May 16, 2022, acknowledging the week and the importance of the men and women that work throughout the Public Works Department. The City of Fort Pierce Public Works Team also has several beautification projects planned around the City of Fort Pierce. The main project Public Works will focus on will be the Moore's Creek area from 10th Street to 15th Street. This will include tree trimming, debris removal, garbage removal, canal maintenance, and sidewalk cleaning throughout the area.

The week will conclude with an employee appreciation lunch for Public Works Staff, as the Management Team wants to recognize every employee in the Department and let them know how much their efforts are truly appreciated. Effective storm drains and sewers, sturdy roads and bridges, safe buildings, clean parks, hurricane response, and garbage/recycle pickup are just some of the many City functions that would not be possible without the amazing employees of the Public Works Department. Their constant dedication to improving the quality of life for residents and businesses here in the City of Fort Pierce is sincerely cherished and greatly valued.
