COVID-19 vaccinations: More than 80% of teachers are vaccinated at the start of the school year

Press release: 12.604-195/21

Vienna,2021-09-08 - At the start of the new school year, more than four out of five teachers in Austria are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is one of the results of an analysis by Statistics Austria on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, based on data of the National Vaccination Registry (reference date 31 August 2021), Statistics on Teaching Staff, Register-based Labour Market Statistics and Register-based Census data. A monthly update of the results is planned for the ongoing school year 2021/22.

'The willingness of teachers in Austria to be vaccinated against Corona is high: 82% of teachers aged 20 to 64 are now fully vaccinated. This means that vaccination coverage among teachers is significantly higher than in the general population of the same age with a vaccination rate of 65%. The fact that the vaccination rates can now be statistically evaluated anonymously for a professional group is another step towards improving the information situation and the basis for evidence-based policy-making in Austria,' says Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics Austria.
