Forest Motorized Trails Open May 27th at 8 am Riders Start Your Engines!

Warren, PA, May 19, 2022 - The US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service will open all-terrain vehicle and off-highway motorcycle (ATV/OHM) trails at 8 am on Friday, May 27th in the Allegheny National Forest for the summer riding season that runs through Sunday, September 25th.
Student Conservation Association trail crew members have been diligently working on trail improvement projects in preparation for the coming season. Improvements occurred on both the Marienville and Timberline trail systems, where paver blocks were installed on three sections of trail to address resource concerns and drainage issues. The trail projects were funded directly through motorized trail permit sales.
Annual permits are required to operate ATVs, UTVs, and OHMs on the 109-mile, motorized trail system. Information on how to purchase a permit is on the Allegheny National Forest website.
Trail conditions can be challenging, and users are encouraged to consider their skill level when evaluating whether to use any trail. Forest Service staff will monitor motorized trail conditions. "We are excited for the start of the season and hopeful that weather and trail conditions allow Forest visitors to enjoy the trails through Labor Day," said recreation staffer Justin Woldt.
To help protect the natural and cultural resources of the Forest we encourage visitors to practice outdoor ethics such as Leave No Trace Principles and Tread Lightly. Trail users should always proceed with caution, as many of the trails are open for multiple uses and they may encounter vehicles, bicyclists, horseback riders, or hikers at any time. You are responsible for the safety of yourself and those around you.
