Novo Estado Project begins commercial operations

ENGIE's Novo Estado (PNE) project in the states of Pará and Tocantins has received authorization from the National System Operator (ONS) to begin commercial operations of the Serra Pelada substation and its reactors, which characterizes the initial milestone of its operation.

"The Novo Estado Project is extremely important for the offtake of energy generated in the North of the country and its availability to other regions. The Serra Pelada substation will operate as a hub for the Xingu substation, into which are linked major hydroelectric plants, bringing both optimization and greater security to the National Interconnected System (SIN)", commented ENGIE Brasil Energia's (EGIE3) Chief Executive Officer, Eduardo Sattamini.

"In addition to promoting the development of Brazil in a balanced and just manner, our transmission line projects underscore the operational strategy of ENGIE as an investment platform in energy infrastructure", Sattamini completed.

The conclusion to the implementation of Novo Estado's assets in their entirety - 3,634 double circuit transmission towers,1,800 kms of transmission lines and a new substation together with the expansion of a further three existing substations, is scheduled for no later than the end of the second quarter 2022, a timeframe which anticipates the one in relation to the calendar agreed with the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
