NEI CEO Maria Korsnick on Project Vogtle Completion

Washington, D.C.-Statement from Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute, on the completion of Project Vogtle:

"The commercial operation of Vogtle Unit 4 marks the completion of an incredible achievement for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant and the U.S. nuclear energy industry-it is expected to be the largest power generating station in the U.S. Unit 4 joins the three other Vogtle units in bringing clean, reliable energy to the people of Georgia and is an example to the entire country of how impactful deployment of advanced nuclear reactors can be in achieving our climate and energy independence goals.

Beyond clean electricity generation, Plant Vogtle creates secure, well-paying jobs-stimulating local economies and supporting community development. The U.S. nuclear industry employs nearly 100,000 people, and we are thrilled to have workers at Plant Vogtle among our ranks.

Vogtle Units 3 and 4 are the first advanced reactor technologies to be deployed in the U.S. and their success paves the way for continued expansion of clean nuclear energy here and abroad; their completion sends a clear message that the U.S. is open for business. We extend our congratulations to the entire Vogtle team on their achievement and commitment to a zero-carbon future."
