Kimball Bridge Road Overpass Bridge Set to Reopen Next Week
ALPHARETTA, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) anticipates opening the new Kimball Bridge Road bridge over State Route (SR) 400 in Alpharetta the afternoon of Wednesday, May 8, 2024, weather permitting. Construction partners closed the old structure on May 8, 2023, and the new bridge will be completed on time within the year allotted for the construction.

Motorists are encouraged to stay tuned to Georgia DOT social channels for additional information on the opening timing for the safety of work crews, other motorists and pedestrians.

The new structure features:
  • A raised profile
  • A multiuse path and sidewalk
  • Two additional lanes with a raised median
As the bridge nears completion, continued construction activities will include final roadway striping. Additional work will be required for the placement of the decorative fencing and pavers, as well as general clean-up over the coming weeks.

Georgia DOT thanks the City of Alpharetta, local law enforcement, and the community for their coordination and patience while this work was completed.

Work continues on the neighboring Roberts Drive and Pitts Road bridges in Sandy Springs as well, with overall project completion anticipated later in Q2 2024.

These bridges were pulled forward as part of the phased delivery of the planned SR 400 Express Lanes. The Pitts Road, Roberts Drive, and Kimball Bridge Road bridges over SR 400, which were 50 years old and nearing their end of life, are being replaced and widened to accommodate the future express lanes along SR 400. The new bridges have been replaced with taller, wider structures which will feature multiuse paths and sidewalks.
