Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach's Technology and Innovation Department (TID) is launching a community survey and workshop series as part of its efforts for the development of TID 26, the department's short-term information technology strategic plan. TID is working to create a plan that articulates a clear and achievable vision, principles, strategic focus and implementation roadmap to have in place by the end of 2026 to align with the City's 2030 Strategic Vision themes of ensuring people have access to technology to learn, communicate, engage, and thrive and that the City is technology and data informed.

"Everyone deserves access to high-quality technology public services, and we want to hear from our residents and businesses so we can offer efficient, quality services that meet the needs of our community," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "I encourage everyone to complete the community survey and participate in an upcoming workshop."

The City is dedicated to providing easy-to-use technology services online, anytime and anywhere to greatly enhance residents', businesses' and visitors' experience with its services. TID 26 seeks to build and protect communities' trust in the City, provide the City with data for service improvement, and improve equitable access to technology for Long Beach's diverse communities. Community input is critical to achieving these goals and envisioning the City's future, which is why a key component of developing TID 26 includes implementing a community survey and hosting workshops that allow residents to share their feedback about their technology needs and suggestions for improvement. The multilingual survey, available online now through Friday, May 17, is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog.

Residents can also share their feedback by participating in an upcoming community workshop taking place this May. Residents can register online now and will receive additional workshop details upon registration completion. Attendees can request language interpretation and other accessibility services in the registration form.

Resident Community Workshop
Monday, May 13, 5-7 p.m.
Houghton Park Community Center (6301 Myrtle Ave.)

Business Community Workshop
Tuesday, May 14, 5-7 p.m.
Recreation Park Community Center (4900 E. 7th St.)

"I look forward to engaging with the Long Beach Community during our upcoming TID 26 workshops," said Technology and Innovation Department Director Lea Eriksen. "The upcoming workshops will merge technology and community, to create a collaborative space for City staff and residents to discuss innovative ways we can work together to advance equity through technology and public services."

TID 26 seeks to accomplish the following goals:

• Support existing IT operational and business needs while building the foundation for achieving new strategic priorities.
• Embrace human-centered digital offerings.
• Align with and advance the City's equity, accessibility and inclusion goals so all Long Beach residents, businesses and visitors can benefit from City services.
• Serve as the north star to guide how technology projects and services are delivered.
• Communicate strategic priorities to TID staff and other City departments.

TID 26 will also build upon the City's other existing strategic plans, including the Smart City Initiative, Digital Inclusion Roadmap, Fiber Network Plan, Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative, and aid in preparation efforts for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Feedback garnered through the survey and workshops will help inform the development of TID 26, which is expected to be presented to the City Council in summer 2024. TID has been working with a consultant during the planning and development of TID 26, and the consultant will help establish an accountability framework to support TID with the implementation of the plan, aiming to harness technology to improve the quality of life for all Long Beach residents.
