School of the Arts track aiming for Christmas Number One

The University of Liverpool's School of the Arts (SotA) is aiming to scoop the Christmas Number One spot with an original track written, performed and produced by staff and students.

Christmas Time is also the very first release from the newly established Department of Music record label, Redbrick Records.

Michael Beiert, the University technician who wrote and produced the new single, said: 'The message is clear and simple: we need to stand together for peaceful solutions in a globalised world, in particular, when political discourse has been hijacked by populist and elitist endeavours to create rifts between different parts of the population.

'We need to continue to promote a sustainable lifestyle to ensure future generations can call this planet their home. Most importantly, we need to look inside ourselves, acknowledge our pain, and overcome the current state of our traumatised society.'

A traditional sounding Christmas style song, Christmas Time is performed by the SotA Singers and the Department of Music's resident ensemble, Solem Quartet.

It was also recorded in the Department's brand new recording studio on Bedford Street.

Professor Catherine Tackley, Head of the Department of Music, said: 'We know that music has a fantastic ability to bring people together, and it is great to see this in action within the School of the Arts.

'The release marks the start of Redbrick Records, a significant new initiative from the Department of Music, masterminded by Lecturer, Holly Tessler.

'I look forward to seeing the label develop as it becomes a focus within the curriculum and provides an outlet for student and staff creative projects and research.'

Christmas Time by the SotA Singers can be streamed on most major platforms including: Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, Deezer, iheartradio and Napster.

You can play your part and help raise vital funds for the given charities by purchasing a copy of the CD, which is on sale for £5 from the Victoria Gallery and Museum Shop and the Department of Music Reception.

All profits from the CD sales will go to the University's Liv to Give Charities for 2019, which include; Alder Hey Children's Charity, Claire House Children's Hospice and The Whitechapel Centre.
