SUAA’s New Student Send-Offs Help Welcome Newest Members of Orange Family

Going away to college can be an anxious time for first-year students and their parents.

To ease those concerns and to help new students and their parents become better acclimated with Syracuse University, the Syracuse University Alumni Association (SUAA) is once again offering a series of New Student Send-Off events to welcome the newest members of the Orange family.

Hosted by SU's regional alumni clubs, members of the Board of Trustees, individual alumni and SU parents, these gatherings are the perfect way to introduce incoming students to the University. The send-offs allow members of the Class of 2022 and their parents to make connections before arriving on campus by getting to know other new SU families and established members of the University community.

Students and parents who are new to SU can have their questions answered by current students and alumni-all while showing off their Orange spirit during a fun and festive gathering. All new students will receive a special Syracuse gift to bring with them to campus.

This summer, 46 send-offs have been planned in 43 cities in 20 states across the country. The send-offs will also occur internationally, with events scheduled in Dubai, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico and Taiwan. Visit the New Student Send-Off website for a complete list of send-offs. For more information, email [email protected] or call 315.443.3258.

These send-offs serve as signature events for SU's regional alumni clubs, and the hard work and dedication of alumni club volunteers ensure they run smoothly. If you are interested in assisting with a send-off in your area, contact your local alumni club by visiting

Additionally, on Aug. 14, the SUAA is partnering with the Office of First Year and Transfer Programs to host a 'Cuse Q&A for incoming students and their families. Carrie Grogan Abbott, director of first year and transfer programs, will share important last-minute information and answer questions via Facebook Live at 1 p.m. EDT. The Q&A can be viewed live on the Syracuse University Alumni Facebook page, and the video will be available on the page following the live event.
