City-produced documentary receives three Telly Awards

The City of Lewisville recently earned three Telly Awards for its "1972: A Season of Hope" documentary about the Lewisville Fighting Farmers football team.

The 1972 team was the first Lewisville High School football team to reach the state championship game, falling just a yard short of the Class 3A title. The 35-minute film, produced by City Video Specialist Matthew Thornbury, features interviews with many players, coaches, and students who were part of that magical 1972 season and the improbable run to the state title game. It also features a mix of old pictures, Super8 home videos of the team as they prepared for the big game in Austin, and actual game footage.

The documentary was recognized with:

Silver Award - Craft Use of Archival Footage
Bronze Award - General Documentary
Bronze Award - Craft-Videography / Cinematography

"1972: A Season of Hope" can be seen on the City of Lewisville YouTube page, or by visiting the City's website (cityoflewisville.com).

The film also is featured in the 1972 Fighting Farmers football exhibit on display inside the Lewisville Visitor Information Center, 247 W. Main Street. The exhibit will run through the end of 2022.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards honors video and television made for all screens and is judged by the Telly Award Judging Council, a group of leading video and television experts from some of the most prestigious companies in entertainment, publishing, advertising, and emerging technology.
