Whether it's volunteering at Miami International Airport for the past 15 years or running in over 300 5K races, MIA's 2024 Volunteer of the Year Alberto Orso definitely goes the extra mile. As an MIA Volunteer Ambassador, he is known for walking elderly travelers all the way to their gate or to the Miami Intermodal Center, and he is frequently one of the first volunteers to sign up to help with any event. In addition to donating his time to assist passengers at MIA, he also volunteers at the Miami Open tennis tournament, the Miami Grand Prix, and with the Miami-Dade County Elections Department. Among his 300+ races is the MIA Runway 5K Series, in which Orso has run since its inception in 2020.

Orso was recognized at the airport's 2024 Volunteer Ambassador Recognition Gala on April 24, held annually during National Volunteer Week. Orso received 90,000 travel points from MIA hub carrier American Airlines and a one-night stay at the W South Beach Hotel from the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association for his service.
