Lewis Capaldi Receives 4 ASCAP London Music Awards During @ASCAP Social Media Event on 19 and 20 October

LONDON, 19 October 2021-- ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, today announces the winners of the ASCAP London Music Awards 2021, which take place virtually for the second year running. Shining a light on incredible British songwriting and composing talent for their continued U.S. success this year sees Lewis Capaldi scoop a massive four awards and a co-writer behind "RITMO (Bad Boys for Life)," thehit for Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin, scores two. Other music creators recognised include Becky Hill, MNEK, Jasmine Thompson, Steve Mac, Dan Smith of Bastille and a host of composers for film and TV including The Crown and Call the Midwife. The winners will be honoured over @ASCAP Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and @ASCAPLondon Instagram during 19 and 20 October 2021 with the hashtag #ASCAPAwards. ASCAP will share exclusive photos and videos from the winners as part of the virtual event.
On its release in 2019, "Someone You Loved" catapulted Scotland's Lewis Capaldi to global success. The song was taken from the LP Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, the extended version of which featured "Before You Go," another worldwide smash; Capaldi is named ASCAP London Songwriter of the Year for both works. Additionally, "Someone You Loved" earns him awards for Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song, whilst "Before You Go" is a Winning Hot 100 Song.
Featuring a prominent sample of the 1995 Corona hit "Rhythm of the Night," "RITMO" - co-written by Pete Glenister - receives two awards for Top Hot Dance/Electronic Song and Winning Hot 100 Song. Performed by Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin, its chart success proves the longevity and importance of great songwriting.
One of the biggest hits of the long pandemic summer of 2020 was "Head & Heart" by Joel Corry ft. MNEK. Co-written by MNEK, Neave Applebaum, Robert Harvey, Lewis Thompson and Leo Kalyan, the song earns Winning Hot Dance/Electronic Song Awards for all of its songwriters. Steve Mac, one of the most successful songwriters of the 21st century, receives another Winning Hot Dance/Electronic Song Award, along with Bastille's Dan Smith, for the chart-topping "Happier" (by Marshmello ft. Bastille). Becky Hill's"Lose Control," her team up with Meduza, gains a Winning Hot Dance/Electronic Song award alongside co-writer Conor Blake Manning, with Winning Hot Dance/Electronic Song awards going to Jasmine Thompson for co-writing "Funny" and Sam Gray for co-writing "Takeaway" (Chainsmokers & ILLENIUM ft. Lennon Stella).
ASCAP also recognises the best composers in the worlds of film and television with 11 awards. Top Box Office Film of the Year is for Daniel Pemberton's epic work on DC Comics' Birds of Prey. Other Top Box Office Film gongs go to: Christopher Benstead for Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen; Isobel Waller-Bridge and David Schweitzer for Emma.; the legendary Andrew Lloyd-Webber for the film version of perennial favourite Cats; Natalie Holt forInfidel; and for a second year, Devonté Hynes for Queen & Slim.
Production on the small screen is bigger and better than ever before, and this year the award for Top Cable Series is awarded to ASCAP Film and TV Scoring Workshop alum Maurizio Malagnini and Peter Salem for the very British Call the Midwife. Top Network Series goes to Dancing with the Stars score composers Dan McGrath and Josh Philips, and finally, Top Streaming Series & Film awards go to composers for The Crown, Martin Phipps; Little Fires Everywhereby Isabella The Machine Summers, and Rob Lord for Troop Zero.
