This morning, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Clarenville RCMP observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed near the Bonavista highway and locked in a radar reading of 164 kms/hr in a 100 kms/hr zone.
The driver, a 52-year-old man from Little Catalina, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for exceeding the speed limit by 51 km/hr or more. Police seized and impounded the motorcycle for three days and suspended his driver's licence for seven days.
RCMP NL reminds drivers to obey the posted speed limit. Consequences for a first offence of excessive speeding include a fine of $520.00, on-the-spot 3-day impoundment of a vehicle and a 7-day suspension of a person's driver's licence.
